Wind Down The Right Way

by Alina Dombrovska |

Ever wonder what’s the best way to wind down after a long day's work? Do you need a switch up from your traditional wind down routine? Need new ways to relieve stress at night when you get home? Well, here at Hello Tea we have some new ideas for you to try!

  1. Hot Bath

A hot bath initiates and accelerates the detox process. Every night the body goes through a cleansing in order to maintain good health so you can also get a good night's sleep. A hot bath just begins the process and allows for a deeper cleansing and healing to take place.

  2. Meditation
In some medical studies, meditation actually soothes stress. It has shown that it activates our autonomic nervous system, allowing for better sleep, stronger digestion, and deeper breathing. You can use this as your bodies own “reset” button. One way to meditate is to take five deep breaths, breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. A second way is to “check into your body.” Feel both inside and out and survey how exactly you feel and send out warm thoughts to any part of your body that doesn’t register well.

  3. Avoid using blue screens
The main reason we recommend this is because it has been shown that  the blue light emitted by screens on cell phones, computers, tablets, and televisions restrain the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep/wake cycle or circadian rhythm. Reducing melatonin makes it harder to fall and stay asleep.

  4. Read a book

Reading before bed can help improve cognitive function by having the brain focus on something. It can help emotionally by taking your mind off your problems and aid in anxiety and depression by distracting your brain. A ritual can help separate your stresses from your sleep time schedule. Strangely enough, reading before bed can also improve your empathy because if you read literary fiction before bed, you're more likely to understand others' emotions and mental processes, which can improve the quality of your relationships when you are awake.

  5. Enjoy a cup of tea
Cozy up in bed with a nice warm mug of some herbal tea. Avoid black, green or white tea leaves though because they have caffeine in them. We recommend some herbal tea. Each type of herbal tea, whether it is peppermint, chamomile or the like, it all has health benefits for each individual tea drinker. There are so many options to choose from and Hello Tea can supply you with different kinds for your tea tasting needs.
